Health and Wellbeing: 5 unmissable shows, exhibitors and demos at The Emergency Services Show 2025

September 3, 2025

With The Emergency Services Show 2025 fast approaching, anticipation is building for a showcase of all that helps make the blue light sector a success.

Over the course of two days on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 September at the NEC in Birmingham, the very best knowledge and resources will be shared with police officers, police staff, and their colleagues across other emergency services, who collectively work to protect the public, often at the expense of their own health and wellbeing.

A barefooted womean enjoys a yoga session like the sort that will be on offer at the Emergency Services Show 2025.

The Emergency Services Show is also about giving police officers and other emergency services’ workers the tools they need to look after themselves, delivered via a variety of sessions and live demonstrations which specifically focus on health and wellbeing.

Here, we take a look at our top-five ‘must-see’ hosts and exhibitors at this year’s event:

1. The National Police Healthcare Scheme

The NPHS is proud to be exhibiting at The Emergency Services Show for 2025, and we can’t wait to show attendees from the ‘Police Family’ what we can offer them.

Policing is a profession with demands, expectations and stresses like no other, and we appreciate the pressure that can be put on the wellbeing of officers and staff, so our scheme makes it easier for them and their loved ones to swiftly access affordable and high-quality healthcare.

At The Emergency Services Show, we want to remind you, when possible and appropriate, to put yourself first in a job which often requires so much selflessness and sacrifice, and tell you more about how we can help you, including through the following:

  • Quick access to first-class private medical diagnosis and treatment, including follow-up care
  • Support through the NHS Cash Benefit option when you use public healthcare
  • Free membership to the Police Treatment Centres (PTCs), to assist in recuperation from injury and illness, whether sustained at work or not
  • Exclusive access to luxury holiday homes for a well-deserved break

Our team can be found at Stand C7Z6 in the NEC’s Hall 5 and is looking forward to meeting you.

2. Frontline Fitness Session with Blue Light Health Club

Just like the police, the fire and rescue service will be well represented at The Emergency Services Show 2025 – not least through firefighter Angela Everington, who will deliver three open workout sessions at the NEC as the founder of the Blue Light Health Club.

All attendees are welcome to join the classes and unlock an instant wellbeing boost away from the hustle and bustle of a busy exhibition space, by getting moving and having fun.

Qualified personal trainer Angela will lead you through a range of simple, effective exercise ideas – all of which can be adapted to suit any fitness level and taken away to be incorporated into the day-to-day routine of any emergency service worker, no matter how busy.

3. Walking therapy with Mind Over Mountains

Also promoting the importance of being active will be Mind Over Mountains, an award-winning charity which combines nature walks with professional wellbeing support.

Head of Communications and Partnerships Helen Woolridge will be on hand to explain how attendees can benefit from a unique service which has already made a difference to the lives of countless emergency service workers.

Mind Over Mountains’ retreats take place alongside trained mental health coaches and qualified counsellors in the peaceful, unpressurised countryside – a perfect change of pace from the relentlessness of the frontline.

By paying Helen a visit, you can find out how to access a wellbeing activity which will grant you much-needed space to breathe, refresh and be listened to.

4. Public order aftercare with the National Police Chiefs’ Council and Merseyside Police

New to The Emergency Services Show this year is the ‘Protecting the Protectors’ Stage, bringing an added emphasis on the safety, welfare and resilience of frontline workers and thus making it the ideal platform for a discussion on police care following public order incidents.

Billed as ‘looking after our first responders when the disorder subsides’, the talk is set to be delivered by police chaplains Matthew Hopley, of the National Police Chiefs’ Council, and John McCarthy, of Merseyside Police.

You can hear from experts Mark and John about best practice when it comes to prioritising the health and wellbeing of officers and staff in one of the most physically and mentally challenging modes of policing, giving you invaluable knowledge on what you should be expecting from your force.

5. Managing burnout with Dr Richard Duggins

Another expert-led, informative session will be provided by psychiatrist and psychotherapist Dr Richard Duggins, who will explore the ways in which burnout can be recognised and handled within the blue light sector.

Drawing on research and insight contained in his new book, Burnout Free Working, Dr Richard will break down his best tactics for staying fresh, keeping the energy and bouncing back in a demanding work environment.

He will be joined by Nick Smart, President of the Police Superintendents’ Association, to underline to attendees the importance of taking steps to avoid becoming overwhelmed and overworked on the job, as well as how vital it is to ask for help if you do find yourself in such a place.
